Description
This started out as a charcoal sketch that eventually evolved into a photoshop concept drawing. Its a drawing from a short story I've been working in for years.Make sure you check out the large version to really get a feel for this one

The level of detail is just phenomenal, excellent work. +5
I'm wondering though...just out of curiosity, how long did this take you Philip?
I would imagine it would take quite a while.

dremerc: all said and done very little of what you see here is charcoal. The initial design/composition and feel was done with charcoal and then all the refining and details were done in Photoshop.
Quill: It's very hard to say how long this actually took as I worked on it off and on for about 3 years. Whenever I felt like it I would spend a couple of hours. I usually have a couple of projects like this going while I'm doing other paintings. They help me break up the monotony of working on the same image. It also allows me to do something this detailed without putting to much pressure on when I finish it. Plus after a day of working on something like this I need a break from it...it's much to intense

It can be hard to pull off a great black and white picture, as details can disappear and images can look murky. But you've got just the right amount of contrast.

All I know is as the image loaded up I sat there going "oh yeah, oh yeah" in a kind of a quiet / awed fasion
I love the building concepts, especially the upside down looking one of the top left
The depth and the mistical feeling from the amazing greyscale finish is perfect.
